Slip-On Flange (SO) Full Specification
1. Basic Information
- Product Name: Slip-On Flange
- Short Name: SO Flange
- Function: A type of flange that slips over the outer surface of the pipeline, fixed by fillet welding on both the inner and outer sides of the flange neck. It is easy to install and disassemble, and is widely used in medium and low pressure pipeline systems.
- Standard:
- ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47 (American Standard)
- GB/T 9115, HG/T 20592, HG/T 20615 (Chinese Standard)
- EN 1092-1, BS 4504 (European Standard)
- Application: Oil & gas, petrochemical, water treatment, power plant, chemical industry, municipal pipeline and other medium and low pressure pipeline systems (working pressure generally not exceeding PN40/Class 300).
2. Pressure Ratings
- Class Series (US Standard): Class 150, 300, 600, 900 (Class 150/300 are most commonly used)
- PN Series (Metric / European): PN6, PN10, PN16, PN25, PN40 (PN10/PN16 are most commonly used)
3. Face Type (Sealing Surface)
- RF: Raised Face (Most Commonly Used, suitable for general medium and low pressure conditions)
- FF: Flat Face (Suitable for low pressure, non-toxic, non-corrosive media)
- M/F: Male / Female (Good sealing performance, suitable for media prone to leakage)
- T/G: Tongue / Groove (Strong sealing, suitable for flammable, explosive and toxic media)
- RTJ / RJ: Ring Type Joint (Rarely used, only for high pressure conditions where slip-on flanges are specially designed)
4. Main Materials
- Carbon Steel: A105, A234 WPB, Q235B, 20#, 16Mn (Most widely used, cost-effective)
- Stainless Steel: 304/L, 316/L, 321, 904L (Suitable for corrosive media such as acid, alkali and salt)
- Alloy Steel: A182 F11, F22, F9 (Suitable for high temperature and medium pressure pipeline systems)
5. Nominal Size Range
- NPS: 1/2″ – 48″
- DN: DN10 – DN1200

7. Marking (Standard Export Marking)
- Product Name: Slip-On Flange (SO)
- Size: NPS / DN
- Pressure Rating: Class / PN
- Material (Material Grade)
- Executive Standard
- Heat Treatment Number (Heat No.)
- Manufacturer Mark
8. Packaging & Delivery
- Packing: Wooden case or plywood pallet, with anti-rust oil coating on the flange surface to prevent collision and corrosion during transportation; each flange is individually packaged with moisture-proof paper.
- Shipping Mark: English shipping mark as required by the client, including product name, size, quantity, gross weight, net weight, destination port, etc.
- Storage Reminder: Before delivery, the flange should be stored in a dry, ventilated and clean warehouse, away from moisture, dust and corrosive substances to avoid rust and damage.
- Delivery Note: The product is accompanied by a quality inspection certificate (Certificate of Quality) to ensure that the product meets the standard requirements.
9. Key Notes for Selection & Installation
- The inner diameter of the slip-on flange should be slightly larger than the outer diameter of the pipeline to ensure that the flange can be smoothly slipped onto the pipeline (general fit clearance is 1-2mm).
- Welding requirement: Fillet welding must be performed on both the inner and outer sides of the flange neck to ensure the connection strength and sealing performance.
- Pressure matching: Select the appropriate Class/PN according to the working pressure of the pipeline system; do not use it in ultra-high pressure (exceeding PN40/Class 300) or ultra-high temperature working conditions.
- Material matching: Select the flange material according to the pipeline medium (corrosive, non-corrosive) and working temperature to avoid material corrosion or performance degradation.
